Vampire Weekend at The Manchester Apollo 05/02/10

Vampire Weekend strolled into Manchester on Monday and the crowd was abuzz for the return off the preppy Indie Rockers. This time however the stage was bigger and the infamous Manchester Apollo was packed to the rafters as everyone waited eagerly for the band to show up. The support act was a band by the name of "Fan Death". Qan Mag was fortunate enough not to have come across them before however that all changed on Monday night. The band put in an energetic performance however it was as if one of their electro pop offerings bled into another, and the crowd grew restless.

However the prompt 9.30 arrival of the Ivy leaguers also known as Vampire Weekend, spurred the mob into action with a huge reaction to their arrival. They kicked off their set with new number; "White Sky".

their set offered everything Vampire weekend fan could have hoped for a blazing trail of new songs peppered with songs that have become soundtracks for people's lives (well, this reporter's at the very least). As the sets went on we were treated to well known tracks such as "Mansard Roof" and the particularly brilliant "Oxford Comma". However the newer offering such as "Holiday", "Run" and "Horchata" also received a great response from the crowd. All in all it was a great performance by the quartet but the highlight of my evening apart from the brilliance of some people's dancing (http://twitter.com/qanmag/status/8829067233) was the brilliant finale. The sheer joy and energy of "Walcott" pulsated around the Apollo, leading this reporter to agree with front man Ezra Koenig's comment that "Manchester is indeed the Best Chester".
We do have a confession. we lost all senses of taste and judgement however and sheer hysteria purchased this hat...
